Dermapen and facial PRP/PRF may be discussed for concerns connected with skin quality, but they are not two names for the same procedure. Dermapen is a microneedling device that uses sterile micro-needles and individually selected parameters. PRP and PRF are autologous preparations obtained from the patient’s blood and applied under a defined plan.
PRP or PRF may sometimes be discussed alongside microneedling, but that does not make a combination necessary or suitable for every person. A useful consultation should define the concern, area, material, application method and review point before any treatment decision is made.
Key differences
| Point | Dermapen | Facial PRP/PRF |
|---|---|---|
| What defines the procedure | The device, treatment area and microneedling parameters. | The autologous preparation, treatment area and application method. |
| First question | What does the skin assessment show, and which parameters are being considered? | Which preparation is proposed, and how would it be applied? |
| What should be documented | Proposed depth or intensity, area, appointments and aftercare. | PRP or PRF, preparation, application, appointments and aftercare. |
| Review point | Skin response and whether parameters or spacing should change. | Response of the area and whether preparation, application or spacing should change. |
The table organises questions. It does not establish eligibility or replace professional assessment.
Dermapen begins with the device and its parameters
Aura describes Dermapen as microneedling that creates controlled microchannels at the skin surface. Depth and intensity should not be assumed to be identical for every area or patient. A clear proposal should therefore identify the area, objective, parameters to be determined after assessment and the aftercare connected with the plan.
Ask how the area will be cleaned and prepared, which device and sterile materials are used, and how response will be recorded. Do not select depth or a session number from somebody else’s example or an online schedule.
PRP and PRF begin with an autologous preparation
Aura presents PRP and PRF as procedures that start with a small blood sample and processing of that sample. Their common origin does not mean PRP and PRF are technically identical or that one protocol is used in every case.
Ask whether the proposal concerns PRP, PRF or another named protocol. Request an explanation of the preparation, area and application method. Application may be discussed through microinjection or in connection with microneedling, but the method requires individual assessment.
A shared objective does not create one plan
Words such as texture, pores, fine lines or tired-looking skin may appear in either conversation. Dermapen still requires decisions about a device and parameters, while PRP/PRF requires decisions about a preparation and application. Describe the visible change you want assessed without diagnosing it yourself.
If the specialist raises both procedures, ask whether they are alternatives or possible parts of a separate plan. Ask for the reason, proposed sequence and review point. The availability of two treatments is not enough reason to combine them.
Prepare your health and skincare history
Bring a list of medicines, supplements, allergies, recent procedures and active skincare products. Report irritation, a wound, infection or inflammation in the area. For PRP/PRF, Aura also asks patients to disclose bleeding issues, blood disorders, anaemia, pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Do not stop medicines or products because of this article. The team must give individual instructions and decide whether a proposal needs adaptation, postponement or another assessment.
