Aura Medical Clinic

A rhinoplasty consultation is a decision-making conversation, not a catalogue choice. Begin with what you would like assessed: shape, profile, size, symmetry, facial balance or a concern about breathing. You do not need to prescribe your own operation. The useful outcome is an explanation of what the assessment shows, which goals may be discussed and where the limits lie.

Aura describes cosmetic, functional and combined rhinoplasty and says each operation is planned around the structure of the nose, the facial features and the person’s goals. This guide helps you prepare for that conversation. It cannot decide whether surgery is suitable, diagnose a breathing problem or choose the surgeon, technique or result.

Bring two clear descriptions to the appointment

Write one short description of the appearance you want to discuss and, separately, any breathing concern you want the specialist to know about. Keeping the two clear helps the surgeon explain whether the consultation concerns a cosmetic objective, a possible functional issue or both.

Useful opening questions include:

  • What do you understand my main concern to be?
  • Which parts of the nose and face are relevant to the assessment?
  • What change might reasonably be discussed, and what cannot be promised?
  • Does my breathing concern require a separate or additional assessment?

These questions do not assume an answer. They give the specialist a starting point and help you check that you and the clinical team are discussing the same objective.

Ask for the assessment to be explained

Aura says the plan reflects the structure of the nose, facial features and the goals discussed with the patient. Ask the surgeon to explain how those factors affect the options in your case. If words such as proportion, symmetry or harmony are used, ask what they mean for you and which limitations remain.

A proposed result should be described as an aim rather than a guarantee. Ask how the team will record the objective and how you can confirm that you understand it before deciding. The consultation should leave you with a reasoned plan, not just the name of a procedure.

Separate cosmetic, functional and combined questions

Cosmetic rhinoplasty concerns the shape, size or proportions of the nose. Functional rhinoplasty concerns structures affecting breathing and is planned after specialist assessment. Aura says a combined plan may address both when the surgeon determines that this is appropriate.

Use the distinction to organise questions rather than to diagnose yourself:

  1. Is the proposed plan cosmetic, functional or combined?
  2. What finding or goal supports that description?
  3. If breathing is part of the discussion, what further assessment or information is needed?
  4. What alternatives or limits should I understand before agreeing to a plan?

A concern about breathing does not, by itself, establish the need for a particular operation.

Identify the surgeon and the follow-up team

Aura works with several surgeons and states that selection is discussed with the patient according to the case, goals and budget. Ask who will conduct the clinical assessment, who would perform the operation and who would oversee follow-up.

Request an explanation of why the proposed surgeon and plan fit the case being discussed. A procedure name, profile or quotation alone cannot provide that reasoning. If more than one option is considered, compare each against the same points: objective, limitations, preparation, monitoring, recovery, follow-up and cost basis.

Confirm what information and preparation are required

Ask which health history, medicines, allergies, previous procedures and documents the team needs from you. Report information accurately and tell the clinic about any change before surgery. Do not stop a medicine or adopt somebody else’s pre-operative routine; follow the instructions given for your case.

Aura’s Day Hospital pathway includes consultation, preparation, surgery, monitoring and follow-up. Ask which tests or additional assessments must be completed, when instructions about medicines and eating or fasting will be provided, and what practical arrangements are needed for transport and care at home. The answers depend on the procedure and anaesthesia plan.

Understand monitoring and discharge

Ask how you will be monitored after the procedure, what the team will assess before discharge and how the pathway changes if more observation or a different care plan is needed. Aura states that discharge depends on the procedure, recovery and the team’s assessment; it is not a guaranteed clock time.

Request a case-specific explanation of risks, limitations and the symptoms that require contact with Aura or urgent help. This guide deliberately does not supply a generic risk list: the surgeon should explain what applies to the proposed plan and answer your questions before you decide.

Build recovery around follow-up, not a fixed promise

Aura explains that recovery and the point at which the result is assessed vary according to the operation and the individual. Ask what written instructions you will receive for care, activity and a gradual return to routine, when the reviews will take place and who to contact between them.

Do not use another patient’s timetable as your own. Ask which changes are expected during healing, what should be reported and how progress will be reviewed. If you live outside Tirana, clarify which reviews require your presence and how communication will continue. Keep the detailed itinerary and return-travel decision for direct clinical planning; Aura’s separate guide covers questions about the stay and follow-up.

Treat the quotation as part of the plan

Aura says the rhinoplasty price depends on the type of operation, case complexity and selected surgeon, and that an individual quotation follows consultation. Once you understand the proposed plan, ask for the quotation in writing and check what is included or separate.

Do not compare totals until you know that the quotations describe the same procedure and care pathway. Aura’s existing price article explains that comparison in detail. In this consultation guide, the key question is whether the written scope matches the plan you have understood. No fixed price or package is stated here.

Twelve questions to take with you

  1. What is the principal goal we are assessing?
  2. What does the assessment show about my nose, face and stated objective?
  3. Is the discussion cosmetic, functional or combined, and why?
  4. Which goals are realistic, and which limits should I understand?
  5. Does a breathing concern require further specialist assessment?
  6. Who would perform the operation, and why is that surgeon proposed?
  7. What plan is being considered, and what alternatives were discussed?
  8. Which tests, documents and individual instructions are required?
  9. Which risks and limitations apply to the proposed plan?
  10. How will monitoring, discharge and care at home be organised?
  11. When are the reviews, and how do I contact the team with a concern?
  12. How was the individual quotation calculated, and what does it cover?

Frequently asked questions

Should I arrive having chosen the exact nose shape I want?

No. Describe the change you want to discuss. Ask the surgeon to connect it to your anatomy, facial features, available options and limits rather than promising a copied or exact shape.

Does mentioning breathing difficulty mean I need functional rhinoplasty?

Not necessarily. Tell the specialist about the concern. Aura states that the need for functional correction is determined after specialist assessment.

Can a consultation give me a guaranteed recovery date or result?

No such guarantee should be taken from this article. Aura says recovery and the timing of result assessment vary by operation and person. Ask for guidance connected to your own plan and progress.

A checklist before deciding

  • ☐ I have received individual preparation instructions.
  • ☐ I have asked about risks, limitations and contact routes.
  • ☐ I understand monitoring, discharge, home support and reviews.
